Slacalek told journalists that today's meeting was an act of commemoration and its participants did not seek a clash with right-wing radicals. Slacalek stressed that persecution against those fighting for a free society continues to date, citing the ban on the Communist Youth Association (KSM) as an example. He stressed that anarchists do not sympathise with the KSM, expressing "Stalinist nostalgia," but that its dissolution was another piece of evidence of suppression by the current ruling power. Czech anarchists traditionally meet on Strelecky Island in Prague centre. The police always watch the meetings in fears of conflicts with right-wing extremists. Last year left and right radicals clashed directly on Strelecky island. In 2006, armoured police prevented a conflict, dividing both groups.
