France to boost its Afghan forces ... military role in the country. Some NATO allies have been reluctant to provide combat forces in Southern Afghanistan, which has seen the worst of rising Taliban violence. Britain, Canada, the Netherlands and Australia all have forces in the region, currently under NATO command. Meanwhile, an explosion has killed a NATO soldier serving in Helmand province. Two other troops were wounded.
