An Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman says the suspected leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, has been arrested in a joint Iraqi-US operation in the northern city of Mosul.
US intelligence officials said they were sceptical about the arrest of Muhajir, even though Iraqi officials said he was already in US military custody. Iraqi officials have already reported his death three times and his capture twice over the past two years.
