Sudan has severed diplomatic relations with Chad.
President Omar al-Bashir made the announcement in an address on state television, in which he accused his Chadian counterpart, Idriss Deby, of being behind a rebel attack on the capital, Khartoum. Chad declares state of emergency ... insurgents reached Khartoum's outskirts, where they briefly held some suburbs, after threatening to overthrow the government. A curfew that was imposed on the city has been partially relaxed. Bashir and Deby have both accused each other of breaking a non-aggression pact that the two leaders signed two months ago.
