On the last leg of a Latin American tour that also took her to Brazil, Peru and Colombia, Merkel said she reached an agreement with Mexican President Felipe Calderon to deal jointly with an issue that has become "a central question" for international politics. She has been accompanied on her visit to Mexico by a group of German business leaders, eager to strike up deals with their Mexican counterparts. The volume of trade between the two countries is now around nine billion euros a year and growing.
