One person has died in a Macedonian election day gun attack in an ethnic Albanian village according to police.
The death occurred during a series of violent incidents in and around the Macedonian capital, Skopje. Macedonia's electoral commission says that 12 polling stations have been closed for security reasons in Albanian areas in the north of the country during the crucial parliamentary elections. Violence and tension among the Albanian minority marred the run-up to the election, which is expected to be won by the centre-right party of Prime Minister Niklola Gruevski in a surge of nationalism after Greece blocked a NATO invitation to Macedonia in April, in a 17-year row over the name it shares with a Greek province.
