Macedonia's election commission says partial results indicate that Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski's conservative party is far ahead in the country's early parliamentary elections.
The party itself projects it will win 64 of parliament's 120 seats, enabling it to form a government without having to seek a coalition partner. Macedonia's snap election was marred by violence in ethnic Albanian areas, prompting the European Union's chief diplomat Javier Solana to call for re-runs in affected electorates. Sunday's snap election was called by incumbent Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski in a bid to secure a majority after his conservative coalition was shaken by a failed bid to enter NATO.
