Macedonia's election commission says partial results indicate that Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski's centre-right party is far ahead in the country's early parliamentary elections.
The party itself projects it will win 64 of parliament's 120 seats, enabling it to form a government without having to seek a coalition partner. The election was marred by violence in ethnic Albanian areas, prompting the European Union's chief diplomat Javier Solana to call for re-runs in affected electorates. Sunday's snap election was called by incumbent Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski in a bid to secure a majority after his conservative coalition was shaken by a failed bid to enter NATO.
