German farmers have stepped up protests to back up their demands for a major increase in the prices they get for milk.
Farmers used tractors and other vehicles to stage blockades at a number of major dairies across the country. Farmers have been refusing to deliver milk to dairies for the past week. The German farmers' association, the BDM, is demanding a minimum 43 euro cents per litre of milk. It says the current prices of between 25 and 35 cents a litre don't allow farmers to cover their costs.
