03.06.2008 - Czech KDU-CSL respects agreement on health care fees

The Christian Democrats are still convinced that reliefs should apply to certain groups of pensioners, Deputy PM Cunek told reporters after a meeting of his party's deputy group. groups, but rather lower the 5000-crown annual limit for the fees and cash payments. The leaders of the government parties, the Civic Democrats (ODS), the Christian Democrats and the Greens (SZ), decided to lower the 5000-crown-limit to 3000 crowns for children under 15.

The sum a patient pays above the limit is returned to him/her by the health insurer. "With regard to some groups of pensioners, this proposal is insufficient," Cunek commented on the coalition agreement. The impact of patients' regulatory fees, in effect since January, should be re-assessed this autumn. Other modifications may be expected in early 2009, Cunek added. Since January, Czechs have paid 30 crowns per visit to a doctor and per item on a prescription, 90 crowns for after hours and 60 crowns per day in hospital. ($1=16.121 crowns)
