Middle East envoy Tony Blair has cancelled what would have been the first visit by a top Western diplomat to the Gaza Strip since the militant group Hamas violently seized power there a year ago.
A spokesman for the former British prime minister said the trip had been called off due to a specific security threat. He also said that Blair hoped to visit the coastal territory at a later date. Blair's visit was to have included a tour of a Gaza waste water project and meetings with traders and United Nations officials but not with Hamas leaders.
