US presidential candidate Barack Obama on Tuesday said the United States must end its "single-minded" focus on Iraq, as he called for a broad revamping of the national security approach.
Speaking in Washington the Illinois senator laid out his policies on issues from Iraq and Iran to Afghanistan and Africa. In his foreign policy address Obama underscored his call to remove US combat troops from Iraq within 16 months. His five-point strategy also included plans to increase the number of troops serving in Afghanistan to fight the terror network al-Qaeda and the Taliban. Republican White House candidate John McCain said Obama was "wrong" on Iraq, and guilty of "bluster" and "idle threats" about striking Al-Qaeda in Pakistan.
