Czech Greens to resolve party tensions by autumn-official ...
Czech deputy PM should consult his Romanies initiative-official ... current first deputy chairwoman Dana Kuchtova to remain in the SZ leadership. The new statutes should remove "duplicate leadership" by weakening the SZ national council's powers.
The council should no longer have its own presidium, but it should be headed by the party leader. The SZ extraordinary congress that Bursik has convoked on September 5-7 is to approve the statutes. Kuchtova has been so far Bursik's only rival candidate in the election of a new party chairperson at the congress. Bursik said Kuchtova can by no means be in his team over their different views of the SZ coalition potential. Kuchtova as well as SZ national council deputy head Matej Stropnicky want the Greens to go into opposition and become a natural partner to the senior opposition Social Democrats (SZ). Bursik wants to defend his position at the party helm with the same programme with which he joined the coalition cabinet with the Civic Democrats (ODS) and the Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL) two years ago. Bursik today denied the speculations that his supporters are expediently establishing new party branches in regions to gain votes at the extraordinary congress. New party branches are being established spontaneously in the Central Bohemia region in protest against the construction of the D3 motorway, he said.
