Merkel, Mubarak call for Lebanese presidential election ... hold a key speech at the party summit of her Bavarian coalition partner CSU in Nuremberg in a bid to fix a widening rift over tax policy. The sister party of Merkel's CDU has sparked a nationwide debate over a potential increase of commuter tax allowance. The CSU has made the tax cut a campaign issue in upcoming parliamentary elections in Bavaria and the topic is expected to feature high on the summit's agenda. Merkel has repeatedly rejected the CSU's proposal to raise commuter tax allowance, on the grounds that it is more important to achieve a balanced budget.
