EU backs talks with Taliban, but not al-Qaeda ... Iranian negotiators had agreed to another meeting in two weeks' time. Jalili called the talks "positive and constructive". In a major policy shift by Washington, US Under-Secretary of State William Burns also attended the talks. Western countries suspect that Iran is secretly trying to develop nuclear weapons. Iran is adamant that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes only.
