Iran has sent a letter to European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana about its disputed nuclear programme but does not mention a freeze in nuclear activity as demanded by western countries, according to an Iranian official.
However, Solana's office said they had not received a written reply. Six of the world's major powers -- Britain, France, Germany, the US, Russia and China -- had offered to refrain from steps to impose more United Nations sanctions if Iran froze expansion of its nuclear work. The proposal was seen as a stepping stone towards starting formal talks on a package of incentives.
