05.08.2008 - Czechs to retire at 65 years of age under new law

The retirement age will be gradually raised by a few months annually from 62 years for men and 60 years and four months for childless women at present. The number of years during which people must pay pension insurance will be raised from 25 to 35 years. Labour and Social Affairs Minister Petr Necas says people already now pay pension insurance for an average of 42 years. Unlike at present years spent while studying will not count to this period. This is the first stage of the government pension reform.
