Mauritanian security forces say they have seized President Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdallahi, his prime minister and the interior minister in a coup.
Soldiers took control of the presidential palace after Abdallahi replaced senior army officers amid a political crisis earlier in the day. This is Abdallahi's first major political crisis since he won the 2007 elections marking the return of civilian rule to the West Saharan Islamic state.
