At the summer Olympic Games in Beijing: The German men's table tennis team has won a silver medal after loosing 3-0 to the favourites China, who took the gold.
The women's field hockey team remains on track for a medal after advancing to the semi-final with a 1-0 victory over Japan. However, German hopes were dashed in two other Olympic team competitions on Monday. The women's soccer team's quest for gold was stopped by Brazil who overpowered the Germans 4-1 in their semi-final. Germany will face Japan in the bronze-medal match on Thursday. The men's handball team also made an early exit after losing to Denmark by a score of 27-21. Germany is in fifth place in the medals standings with a total of nine gold medals.
