Iraqi negotiators are reportedly proposing that US troops end patrols of Iraqi towns and villages by the middle of next year and for US combat troops to leave Iraq by the end of 2011. The spokeman stressed that these deadlines represented the Baghdad government's negotiating position, not an explicitly agreed text. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice made an unannounced visit to Baghdad on Thursday but rejected any reports that an Iraqi-US troop deal had been agreed.
