Wolfgang Vogel, the man who acted as an intermediary for East Germany in spy swaps with the West during the Cold War, has died aged 82.
From the 1960s until the fall of the East German regime in 1989, Vogel was in charge of organising spy swaps between the two blocs. Vogel oversaw the sale of East German political prisoners or would-be emigrants to West Germany.
