Thousands of Democrat supporters turned out in Springfield, Illinois, to cheer on their presidential ticket. Obama praised the Delaware senator and said together the two would take the country in a new direction. In his pitch, Biden pointed to American economic and foreign policy difficulties, saying the country needed to change its course. Observers say Obama's choice of Biden, one of Washington's most senior senators, makes up for a perceived deficit in Obama's experience.
