As the Beijing Olympics draw to a close, International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge said that overall the IOC was extremely pleased with the Games.
He praised China's organisation of the two week competition, but also pointed to heightened environmental awareness and greater enthusiasm for sport among Chinese as the legacies for China. He also looked forward to the 2012 games, to be held in London, urging organizers to think beyond material concerns like bigger venues or more volunteers. Rogge skirted around questions regarding China's response on such issues as human rights and media access.
