Turkish warplanes strike Kurdish rebels in Iraq ... United States and Iraq have issued conflicting statements on the status of a deal to station foreign forces in Iraq as of next year.
The Whitehouse is denying that it has reached a deal with Baghdad, and says negotiations are continuing. Earlier, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said the two powers had agreed on a "fixed date", to pull foreign forces from Iraq by 2011. The 10-month-old negotiations aim to find a replacement mandate for the United Nations Security Council authorisation for foreign forces in Iraq, which expires in December.
