26.08.2008 - UN: deadly Afghan airstrike probably hit civilians

The United Nations mission in Afghanistan says it has found what it calls "convincing evidence" that 90 civilians, including 60 children, were killed in an airstrike last week.

The United States military initially denied that any civilians were hurt in Friday's airstrike in the western province of Herat. It first said the attack killed 30 militants, but later promised to launch an investigation after Afghan villagers staged angry protests.
