For the first time in over a year, a German soldier has been killed in Afghanistan.
He died of wounds suffered when the armoured vehicle he was travelling in struck a remote-controlled bomb. Three other troops were injured in the attack near the northern city of Kunduz. More than 3,000 troops from the German Bundeswehr are stationed in Kunduz province as part of the International Security Assistance Force.
