Britain's foreign minister, David Miliband, is in Ukraine for talks on the Caucasus crisis.
His visit comes amid fears that Ukraine could be among the countries most exposed to an increasingly assertive Russian foreign policy. Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko told Reuters news agency that Russia's recognition of the independence of the breakaway Georgian regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia would threaten security in the former Soviet Union. The European Union presidency, currently held by France, said in a statement that the recognition violated Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty. US President George W.
