The German World Food Program relief agency has announced it is halting aid deliveries to almost half a million people affected by civil war in northern Darfur due to increasing attacks on relief staff.
The Bonn-based agency said that in the past five weeks, armed gangs have attacked aid workers, threatened to kill them on two occasions and stolen seven trucks with supplies. World Food Program said it is now trying to secure safety guarantees from the various fighting factions.
