Czech PM Topolanek has diabetes - press ...
Topolanek who will attend the Greens election congress to be held on September 5-7 did not say whom of the candidates he would support. He said his opinions have differed from both those of Bursik and Kuchtova, but that they have always succeeded in reaching a compromise. Topolanek pointed out that the coalition agreement was binding for him. Kuchtova says she wants to maintain the current centre-right coalition government, including also the Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL). But Bursik claims that Kuchtova will move the Greens towards the opposition Social Democrats (CSSD). Kuchtova said she as SZ deputy head signed the coalition agreement, too. Kuchtova neither confirmed nor dismissed the information that she met Topolanek on Wednesday to assure him that she wants the current coalition to continue. She told CTK that she would like the coalition to discuss the further functioning of the government if she was elected chairwoman.

She said she would be considering rejoining the cabinet in such a case yet she would not insist on it. Kuchtova was education minister, but resigned from the post last autumn after being criticised for problems over drawing EU money. Kuchtova said she was not satisfied with how Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg, who was nominated by the Greens, defended the interests of her party. Schwarzenberg has supported the stationing of a U.S. radar on Czech soil and the recognition of Kosovo's independence, although many of the Greens were against it. If Topolanek considers Schwarzenberg the best minister in the cabinet, the Civic Democrats should nominate him as their own minister, Kuchtova said.
